How to Turn On Your Sprinkler System in the Spring

 

Outside:
  1. On the PVB (Pressure Vacuum Breaker), use a screwdriver to turn the small petcock screws (F) to the closed position, perpendicular to the ground.
  2. Also on the PVB, turn valves (C&D) so they are parallel with their respective pipes.
  3. Find the cross handle drains that are in the valve boxes or under the yellow or silver caps (E). With the sprinkler key (6), slide the sprinkler key over the cross handle drains and turn clockwise to close.

Inside:

  1. In the basement, at the sprinkler mainline going to the outside, close the bleeder drain (A1). (you may have a wheel handle drain (B) )
  2. Turn on the water supply (A).

How to Winterize Your Sprinkler System

 

In the Basement:

  1. Turn off the sprinkler mainline going to the outside of the house at the ball valve (A). (or you may have a wheel handle shutoff (A1))
  2. Place a bucket under the drain valve (B) and turn to the open position to catch water.

Outside:

  1. Find the cross handle drains in the valve boxes or under the silver or yellow caps near the valve box (E). Open caps or valve box cover and slide the sprinkler key (6) over the top of the cross handle drain and turn counter clockwise to let the water out.
  2. On the PVB, (Pressure Vacuum Breaker), turn the ball valves (C&D) to a 45 degree position.
  3. On the PVB as well, use a screw driver to turn the small petcock screws (F) to a 45 degree angle.
